Week Thirty – Four: In Which I Have Taken Advice
I do love regular readers and am quietly chuffed to discover that the answer to my question was a resounding YES! The question was whether or not, the folks reading the reviews on Talk Audio really wanted the Full Geek of major detail and full-length reviews. I myself have always wanted to read more about any one thing that I have been keen on, in a review and indeed, there are some huge, wordy monsters out there in the amateur-writer zone.
One serious industry figure told me how much he hates the 250-words-and-still-get-it-wrong reviews that he has experienced from a big magazine and said he prefers in-depth, too.
Yet all this advice came with a couple of home-hitting provisos, which is that it is also a really good idea to permit access to the reviews’ conclusions and basis as an easy dip-in and grab type thing, or in other words, to put a bit in like they do in my beloved Anglers Mail, called ‘In a Nutshell’ and there’s no fat on that title, any more than there aughta be in the paragraph that follows it.
I have had news that the CS-AT1100 bass tube by Fusion has arrived safely at the winner’s gaff and we are promised shots of it soon, installed!
Meanwhile, I have motored into the reviews a bit better as promised and will get on to some more. I still have that stash of subwoofers and my new electric screwdriver’s started making a screeching noise as it runs.a reviewer’s life for me!
And the first of three separate events being held in the memory of Joe ‘Da Earthquaker’ Ajji, is the Propper Droppers’ Sound off on Saturday the 3rd September at Arena Essex. There’s a thread on their forum all about it here: link
There is to be an SPL day held in his name in Hayes soon, at Car Audio & Security and I gather Ian Pinder and Ed Elson are organising something especially for him at Thurrock Lakeside soon as well. I’ll keep you informed as I learn more.
