Week Twenty-Eight ‘greeef’ Exists & Attends First Ever T-Meet!
That was one heck of a Sunday! There were noise complaints and we kinda got to meet a pair of very friendly local plod, who I think were there at the very end of the day, to be certain that everyone really WAS going home. For yes, that was round THREE of the EMMA Sound off series and the Midbass Open day and the twentieth-T-Meet, all at once.
Held in Sutton Coldfield at the premises of Midbass distribution, the only problem, was always going to be that big heavy deep bass and how it flows like lava across the landscape. The SPL testing area was just that and the cars not being judged were thus booming outdoors. The SQ section was up the hill, with earth and brick walls and other buildings in the way. This resulted in low noise levels for the SQ judging, which is cool.
I met Sam Ellis’s Jaaaaaaag. He has come over all British Engineering fan, while accepting that it will be broken for parts, the moment a big thing goes wrong. Which could be ages yet. Oh and the headlining is a bit saggy and the rear nearside door needs a minor repair to the handle mech. But it’s a 3.2L V8 and I am soo Jealous. But not of his petrol bill!
And I met ‘˜greeef’. Who said he had never been to any sound off, or meet, ever! He has over 3,000 posts and I know him from the forums as a man of acoustic knowledge and dry wit. He was there with his gal and her chum. It’s bloody mad, for I was introduced but their names all elude me now. I had gotten only four hours sleep and yet not needed the alarm clock to awaken at five thirty! Like a fishing day, I just wake up And ‘˜greeef’ I immediately warmed to and decided was both a lovely man, golden eared and sharing great swathes of common interests in audio and life. Funny how you can decide stuff like that so fast.
On which subject, I know at least one attendee thought I was a pain in the arse who wouldn’t shut up. He made a tuff little FB comment. I got tagged in, said, ‘that’d be me’ and some pithy thing about how the poor kid won’t be able to avoid me, if he digs this shizzle. And hilariously got a fistful of likes for the antis for this lad’s entirely justifiable dig!
It’s even been removed and he has a cool name. Doncha Adam?
On a forwards-news direction, the folks from G7 Direct, the distribution for Cerwin-Vega in the UK, have been on the phone, to let me know about their open evening coming up at the front-end business they run. Ian Pinder was at the T-20 meet and allowed to connect his Ground Zero BMW’s power supplies to the juice indoors, thus playing as he liked. The BMW has a lovely rich, all-pervasive reach and even spread of tones. Balanced as ever by the keen ears of our SPL-resistant dude.
This evening, I am off to the Ace Café, to get Ian’s Bimmer better snapped, as he didn’t want it doing at the sound off. Can you believe he was a bit shy? (chortle) And I reckon, get him to review a bass disc by the Bass Mekanik even give him his copy, hand-delivered from Miami headquarters of Bass Mekanik Records!
