Week Twenty – I Got Stuff Aplenty

Oh the stress of owning four ginger cats! One of them is a bit stressy herself and has been peeing up the outsides of new things that appear in the home, like high priced home speaker packages – of which I have two in the living room to play with for Home Cinema Choice magazine. I thought it was bad enough with them trying to peel all the review sample carpeted bass boxes with their fish hooks.  So, I have to leave them in their packing a bit.
On the car speaker review front, I have not cranked through as many as I wanted to last week and I have a couple of amplifiers to play with from Clarion and a slew from Vibe to check out soon. But for the first time in fifteen years, I have a perfect-fit collection of sets of test-box baffles for 145mm cut out and for the smaller one, which both are supposed to ‘standard’ for six and a half inch speakers. Makes life easier.
So the test rig is getting über-posh with the lovely Pioneer DEH-P88RSII CD deck and the Genesis Stereo 100 amp to drive my nice new enclosures. (They have gastight Neutrik connectors and Chord cable internally) Thus, I am going to have to upgrade the main speaker lines for some sexy Chord cables too. I stopped and called to ask them mid-Rainbow review last week and got called back by them this morning. Which means two sets, one for the Bowers & Wilkins speakers I use as near field bench monitors and one for the Acoustic Wood test boxes. It’s all in an effort to make the only variable versus ‘clean and clear’, to be the product in question, be it amp, speaker or source.
I have nine sets of speakers at the office door, some more components from Vibe in the loft as well as a punchy little under seat subwoofer and a tactile transducer from Rockford Fosgate, also for under seat use but different, to play with as well, so keeping it short….
I’ll go get on, then.
