Week Twenty-Seven – It’s Sweaty in Heaven!

I love my job but I’ll admit that humping heaps of stock about in the proper summer weather does get me in a mess, being the polar opposite of that, “She don’t sweat much for a fat lass!” saying…
And life flung me a curve ball last week in the shape of an £11,450 speaker system from Monitor Audio called the Platinum series. It arrived in such huge cartons that I wasn’t certain I would be able to house them. In fact after unpacking them, the MDF and Velcro-sealed empty boxes were sent back in a van to the magazine at Home Cinema Choice Towers! They were fabulous but not as good as the sweetness of the resident reference 800 series Bowers & Wilkinses. But they themselves have to go back to Bowers soon as I am to end up with their newer product with vapour-deposited diamond tweeters. (And a set of the CM series to borrow in the meanwhile.) The sweet thing is that their marketing guy, a total star who is an ex high-up in HiFi writing, knew how much I loved them and was fearful of asking for them back. He had been putting it off and was glad I called him! I confess I feel a little of what foster parents feel when their fostered kids leave. (Of course, I recognise it ain’t the same and to say so is obscene, but saying goodbye to these will HURT!)
And all that was found out because I was asking for a speaker cup from one of their products, to use as a connection system for the Talk Audio mobile electronics test rig systems. Talking of which, I have to get some speakers played with from Phonocar as well soon, as I have just had some delivered. A huge brand in Italy and across Europe, I am just going to check ’em out. And I have a cute under seat woofer thing to try from Clarion as well, so for a change, I’ll keep this one short and as ever…
I’ll go get on, then.
