Welcome To The Pleasuredome! PPA Distribution Join Talk Audio!

To quote a bit of Lewis Carroll: ‘Oh frabjous day! Caloo, Callay!’ I’m literally chortling in my joy for what has just happened out in Talk Audio Land. For this very day I toddled off to visit with a new distribution company, one that was present at the recent trade Expo and who has the most stunning stable of over TEN brands. I was blindfolded and driven to a secret lead-lined underground facility, that was guarded by genetically revivified Velociraptors, (that last bit might not be true) and shown the stuff.

I dribbled, I drooled, I tried not to get any lick on my host but I failed a bit. For before my eyes were huge-mungerous, weapons grade subwoofers and amplifiers, ultra posh three way speaker components with sexy materials in them, cunning Bass EQ systems and rakes and rakes of fanboy nipple-stiffeners in all directions!

Now siddown, Fanboy, for there may well be the brand that gave you the horn, ‘Back In The Day’ in this line-up..

From huge daddy USA operation Maxxsonics comes the mighty HiFonics ‘Pure Sex On  A 12Volt Battery’ was a quote from Peter Newall about the HiFonics Colossus, back in the day. I have a 21st Century model here to suck on, now. Then it’s the German SQ meisters MB Quart who make some of the bloody loveliest speakers for the front stage of your system that anybody ever made. Then it’s Crunch who offer a big badass experience for less and finally Autotek who I think are about a bit of posh SQ but at a budget price.

But hang on, your own old-time pervy urge not been named yet? How about the fact that they are also the UK sole distributors for the Epsilon brands of Soundstream, who were a pure ear candy-to-SQL outfit and still are and Precision Power International or PPI. They were the first to 170dB but offer some lovely electronics as well as boom. The last Epsilon brand is Power Acoustik, all skulls, glory, cool looks and less cash than other Yank brands.

Incredibly, we ain’t finished! There’s the lunatic boom brand from Hades, the original Fear-Register deep subsonic scary shit-generator brand of Cerwin-Vega! Stupefying stuff like their Stroker subsas well as less costly gear that comes from this shameless basshead-manufacturer brand. One of their woofers was once sloganned ‘Good Morning Judge!’. Then, for the dyed-in-the-wool audiophile there is the sexy news that Cerwin-Vega! and Diamond Audio are in fact bedfellows at the same, third American company that my chaps deal with and thus the hugely highly rated amplifiers and speakers and subwoofers are going to be available again. (There’s even a hint of some D3 and D7 subs in 12 inch size that have been found, like a garage of brand new pre-BMW Minis still with hairy tyres!) And lastly, a third brand from these Americans, called Cache. It’s a maker of OEM integration EQs, Bass EQs, Line Level converters and looks like cool kit, yet is priced keenly.

Now lastly, but by NO means leastly are the resurgence products that are in the pipeline from the original brand that was ProPlus Sound. Dismissed in the early years by pompous poshnobs, it was when Rob & Sue Hammond raised a phat 150dB with the brand in their legendary Reliant Robin plastic Pig three wheeler, that folks had to sit up and take notice. The ProPlus name become known for its madly low price tags yet offering a serious slice of why you bought it boom! There were more youngsters started off with ProPlus subs and amps than you would ever believe. And they all grew up and upgraded to go get posher kit in later life.

‘The Original Pioneer of Affordable Car Audio’ is how we shall remember Isaac Ribak, the designer of ProPlus. But the brand and all the above are now with the new company, ProPlus Audio Distribution, or PPA Distribution. Run with youthful vigour and lifer-grade enthusiasm for our world and also a solid background in matters technical and installational (!) this signifies a Phoenix-like rebirth for the whole stable of brands in the UK for PPA’s Really Big Thing is customer service. Our meeting even covered the topic of recone kits (I shared my industry-best recone outfit information with them (hell and you too, no financial interest but Google and call Wembley Loudspeakers if you need a recone for any sub even if you have no kit at all for it!) and I can tell they mean it. Proper warranty, support and training.

This starts on June 7th when some Americans will be coming over to talk about their brands and offer up some of the USPs for a select group of dealer folk.

I already have a trio of ordnance to play with and video; to whit, an HiFonics Colossus, a set of PPI three-way components and a seriously Old Skool Soundstream Reference 4.400 amp. A four channel, it looks so Nineties it makes me go all soft focusbut it’s boxfresh! YUM!

Anyway, huge apologies if you are reading this before I was able to pepper your words above with some pictures, as we had/have a busted CMS gallery issue right now (Murrrrrrr!) but here’s a clinking* of linkies. (* a ‘˜clinking’ = collective noun for a lot of links) to be getting on with in the meanwhile

Of course with that many brands and products, all these lines will be cherry-picked and demand-led to an extent. But stocks are in the UK I have seen them. Lots of them! Just call PPA Distribution on 0207 993 8889 to find out what they do and don’t have and if you are an end user rather than a dealer, to find the nearest dealer to your location.
