When Two Tribes Go To WAR! ALPINE SAY.
There are two kinds of car audio nutters, broadly speaking, with an overlay of the greedy. These are those who like it clear and detailed above all else, the Audiophiles or ‘˜SQ (for Sound Quality) Fairies’ and then there are the Boomers or Bassheads who want to see how LOUD they can go, or SPL for Sound Pressure Level. The greedy want SQL or Sound Quality LOUD!
And most car audio makers, like Pioneer, Clarion and Kenwood have fine traditions of giving more than a slight damn about the power and quality of sound output of their top end component head units. Pioneer have their ODR stuff, Clarion have had some insane units and exhibit top end units while Kenwood have famously even done special edition ‘˜breathed upon’ units for company anniversaries to add even more to the sheer quality of what we get to hear from their stuff.
Yet, while the likes of Jay Kay have been all over Clarion like a famous thing and there have been some seriously famous demo cars from the other brands (notably Kenwood on TV channel DAVE right now with their Scirocco in one of their channel ident stings placed by a cunning agency) and even notwithstanding the serious proportions of sound off competition cars with top end Pioneer kit in them, the likes of Alpine’s top end stuff has always had this unassailable reputation for being generally awesome
Here, is one of the most well known and superb Sound Quality cars on the EMMA circuit. It is Alpine drivenwith a DVR-990R.
And here, one of the very loudest cars of all, that since filming has asserted itself as a serious SPL contender and is arguably the most potent bass car in all the UK right now, with bass to 160dB. Mr Mark Smith’s Volvo 850.
This video has a daft concept behind it but makes the pointLOUDNESS!!
And BOTH cars use Alpine head units
Thing is, Mark was telling me that while he is a dyed in the wool Alpine fan, he needed to get another top end deck as his (his lifetime fifth Alpine overall) was suffering from end-of-lifeness! I gather the sheer beating-dust-into-its-guts phase during installation (that took seven months of blood sweat and tears) took its toll. He didn’t ask but I did. ‘What if I could help him get the deck of his dreams?’ He was beyond slightly embarrassed that I would get on his case thus, as I prefer, since a sense of entitlement really is a put-off but I made some calls
So I can tell you that BOTH SQ champion Andy Blanch (two Euro Gold medals, two Silvers) and SPL superhero Mark Smith of Team Ice (of legendary Ian ‘Iceman’ Pinder fame) are continuing Alpine fans. So the tip top end of both Boom and Tweak at sound off contests is still owned by Alpinefor I have managed to get the lad a deal of such absurd loveliness (NO, NOT FREE!) with the kind help of a certain Alpine dealer and of course the good offices of my good chums at Alpine, that Mark CAN go to the ball and will have a shiny new superdeck for the next and final round of the UK sound off scene at Modified Live at Brands Hatch race track and years beyond.
This deck, the BEST one! This is the sexy behind of the beast
Check out this awesome deck here: link It’s a £900 machine and normally you’ll not find more than £50 discounted from it this was about putting a cherry on a £50,000 bass cake (if you had to buy Mark’s labour at retail!)
So a HUGE thank you and genuine congratulations to Alpine. Great kit, profoundly deep fandom from the users OF ALL TRIBES!
